Jan Berman

Jan Berman was president and chief operating officer of MechoSystems. Under Jan’s leadership, MechoSystems has been honored with numerous awards for design and technical innovation. Many groundbreaking designs have been granted patents, including numerous claims used in SolarTrac®, the company’s automated solar-shading software, where Jan is named as a co-inventor.

Jan has also accelerated the firm’s commitment to sustainable design, putting MechoSystems and its products at the forefront of sustainable building and design. He spearheaded the development of several Cradle to Cradle CertifiedTM products, including the Mecho®/5 and UrbanShade® Systems, with  EcoVeil® shadecloth, the first complete window-shading systems to receive such certification.

Jan is a board member of the Building Energy Exchange (BEEx), an independent, nonprofit organization that promotes energy- and lighting-efficiency, and a member of the High Performance Building Facades Project Advisory Committee, founded by the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He has lectured widely on WindowManagement® solutions and daylighting at showcases such as NeoCon®, the Center for Architecture’s High-Performance Green Building Design Salon in New York, LIGHTFAIR® International, and The Seattle Daylighting  Lab.

Jan is a graduate of Ithaca College and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting.
